Story, Nature, Writing & Living Imagination

For children and adolescents · Niwot–Boulder area
Offerings in development

We begin with attention. Sensing. Tracking. Storying Place.

Return to a tree. Notice what has changed along a path. Listen for a bird we cannot yet see. Find last season’s seed heads still standing.

We learn names. We invent names. We begin to have stories about a place—and a place begins to grow stories in us.

StoryRoot weaves mythopoetic storytelling, writing, nature, and artistic practice, nurturing the relationship between a young person’s imagination, emerging voice, and the living world.

Rooted in Place, Alive in Story

What lives here? Where does the water go? Who else calls this place home?

Through seasonal exploration, old tales, poetry, drawing, movement, and making, we grow familiar with the places around us and discover ways to respond.

A fallen branch might become a character. An animal track might open a question. A tree we visit through the seasons might find its way into a poem.

There is room for wonder, humor, strangeness, and quiet observation. For stories that take their time.

Circles for Different Passages

Childhood · Ages 7–9
Fairy tales, animal stories, nature exploration, drawing, craft, and playful beginnings in creative writing. Children can tell, draw, move, make, and write their way into a story.

The Middle Years
Poetry, character creation, and collaborative world-building. A circle for exploring belonging, friendship, boundaries, and the pleasure

Adolescence
Poetry, personal writing, and mythmaking. Space to explore identity, freedom, inheritance, and relationship with place—while developing writing craft and an individual voice.

Across all circles, participants choose what they share. We give attention to listening, respecting one another’s work, and caring for the places where we gather.
